Protest of a sort…

May 24, 2006

In Retiro Park on Sunday there wasn't the usual huge racket, at least early on, because they people were protesting about rules to stop the music and the market stalls. The protest though was a pleasant affair.Retiro Park Protest

Challenging

May 22, 2006

I was asked by a girl here to explain the following phrase which is used in 'The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Nightime' as an example of the sort of wordplay the lead character doesn't understand. It took a lot of thinking to work it out so I thought I should post it here.

One of those days…

May 18, 2006

Had one of those days, think it best to write it as a timeline.

8:00 Leave for Madrid

9:15 In the Irish Pub with Merlin (another falmouth-erasmus student) to watch the end of the first half of the football. Sol Cambell scores for Arsenal.

10:00 Arrive at what we thought to be the venue but it's in another place. Desperate for something to eat or drink in the heat but have no time.

10:30 In the car, Barcelona equalise, treated to a rendition of goal, goal, goal goal -gol-gol-gol-gol-gol goooooooal by the comentator. Swiftly followed by the second rendition moments later as they take the lead.

10:45 Arrive at the venue to hear just about the last chord of a 45 minute set.Artic Monkeys

The crowd lap up the final moments of the gig

11:00 Back in the car to hear the final whistle, Barcelona have won the champions league.

11:15 On the way home, stop, to drink and eat what felt like the tastiest Cream Neopolitana I have ever had in my life, accomonied by a range of car horns and fireworks celebrating the victory.

11:30 Back in the halls run around in the sprinklers bemused by the whole thing

The windmills in Toledo are reconstructions, but for authenticity you can walk the same path as Don Quixote.

I can also recommend the Nestle Cheesecake ice cream avalible from the in-windmill shop

Toledo…On A Segway

May 2, 2006

Toledo has lots of flat streets which makes it ideal amongst other things for riding a Segway, there was a Segway Hire Shop and I had to have a go, I was scared I would fall off as it works only by weighting your body around to go back or forward, but as it was it was great fun.

Flash

April 28, 2006

We had a teacher come to do a special session in our ‘Infografia y Multimedia’ class, she was great at explaining everything very well, and I ended up with an animation that looks like it was maybe made by a 7 year old! Oh well…

FAIL (the browser should render some flash content, not this).

Christoph Draeger

April 24, 2006

Had another artist come and give a lecture today which I went to as part of my class. Christoph Draeger spoke English which was nice for me and his work was all about disasters, he built big models of disaster scenes and took photos of them and built giant jigsaw puzzles with thousands of pieces with pictures of disasters.
The interesting thing was him talking about how is work was perceived after 9/11 when these images were saturated everywhere. Seems like he’s gone off in a bit of a different direction to go make a film in Brazil…
